Eligible applicants are given priority based on need. Need is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to income, assets, number of dependents and current housing condition.
Rent Assistance is paid directly to tenants, and the amount is calculated based on household income and local market rent: The benefit may be renewed annually and there is no limit to annual benefit renewals if eligible
NPHF administers the Rent Supplement Program on behalf of the Province. Funding is through the Province.
How does Rent Assistance help people?
The Rent Supplement Program provides a subsidy to help make rental accommodation more affordable for individuals and families.
Under the Canada-Alberta Housing Benefit, the Governments of Canada and Alberta jointly provide funding for the Rent Supplement Program.
